ImagesPlus 6.5 x64, 6.0 x32 & 5.75 x32 Images Processing Features

ImagesPlus 6.5 x64, 6.0 x32 for Win 7/8/10 and ImagesPlus 5.75 x32 image processing for XP and Vista are a complete set of 32 bit floating point raw conversion, calibration, alignment, stacking, and enhancement functions for processing DSLR, one-shot color, and CCD image sets. All stretch, smoothing, sharpening, deconvolution, and color adjustment functions can be used with 32 bit floating point blend mode, opacity, layers, masks, and mask creation tools. Image Processing Functions

  • ImagesPlus 6.5 x64, 6.0 x32 & 5.75 x32 are compilied and optimized for 32 and 64 bit multiple processor computers.
    • All available processors are used in parallel when performing image processing operations from stacking through enhancement.
    • ImagesPlus x32 and x64 are both highly multi-threaded and use multi-core in parallel to take full advantage of dual core, quad core, or multiple processor computers.
  • ImagesPlus 6.5 x64 on Win 7 x64, Win 8 x64, Win 8.1 x64, and Win 10 x64 has some functions GPU accelerated. See ImagesPlus GPU Acceleration System Requirements, Use, and Current Function List for details.
  • ImagesPlus 5.75 x32 is for Vista and XP x32.

    • Automated Image Set Processing
      • Auto dark frame matching for DSLR image sets.
      • Automatically preprocess a set of light, flat, flat dark, bias, and dark frames from DSLR, one-shot color, and mono CCD cameras.
      • Color image sets from a DSLR, Bayer color filter array image sets from a DSLR or one-chot color CCD, and monochrome CCD image sets can be processed.
      • Automatically raw convert, create master calibration frames, calibrate, and convert from Bayer color filter array format to color. Alignment and stacking are then completed with a couple of mouse clicks.
      • Select a set of light, flat, flat dark, bias, and dark frames. DSLR, one-shot color CCD, and monochrome CCD, TIFF, FITS, JPEG, or BMP image formats are supported.
      • Based on the type of image files selected the following operation are totally automatic.
        • Canon, Nikon, Kodak, Olympus, Pentax, Adobe DNG and other raw format raw conversion of all light, flat, bias, and dark frames.
        • Creation of master flat, bias, and dark frames. Flat frames are automatically converted to gray scale if processing a set of color or Bayer color filter array images from a DSLR or one-shot color CCD.
        • Light frame calibration.
        • Conversion to color if Bayer color filter array format is used.
        • The above operations are tracked using a process summary.
        • Alignment and stacking is then performed with a couple of mouse clicks.
      • Optional, crop, grade, resize, or apply a sequence of enhancement filters to the processed light frame set with a couple of clicks of the mouse.
    • All Canon CR2, CRW, and Nikon NEF DSLR raw formats along with Pentax, Olympus, Kodak, and Adobe DNG raw formats are supported.
    • Canon, Nikon, Kodak, Olympus, Pentax, Adobe DNG and other raw file conversion to 16 bit uncompressed TIFF or 16 bit lossless compressed FITS image format.
    • Bayer Basic Raw conversion for DSLR raw formats.Convert DSLR raw files to Bayer format without white balance and scaling. Useful when doing read noise & gain calculations and precise dark, flat, and bias calibration.

      • Multi-point alignment and combination for stacking a mix of color and monochrome images from different scopes, DSLR, OSC, and mono CCD cameras. A mosaic option is also available.
      • Automatically align a set of planetary image file to sub-pixel accuracy.
      • Translate, scale, and rotation alignment of a set of images with mosaic mode. Auto star align with meridian flip.

    • Richardson-Lucy
      • For images with moderate signal to noise ratio. A softer restoration method than Van Cittert, with better resistance to noise

      • Point spread functions - Choose box, Gauss, binomial, or custom function.
      • Iterative restoration process - Can be canceled and does not lock the main interface
    • Adaptive Richardson-Lucy with noise amplification control
      • Variable noise threshold greatly reduces or eliminates the speckled appearance caused by over fitting the observed data to noise.
      • Can be applied to color or monochrome images.
      • Point spread functions - Choose box, Gauss, binomial, or custom function.
      • Iterative restoration process - Can be canceled and does not lock the main interface
    • One-step gradient
      • Similar to the Van Cittert method but produces a smoother restored image.

    • Change the size of an image. Add, delete, or overwrite pixels from any side of the image.

    • Translate images
      • Select move from and move to points using the mouse or enter the x-y values.
      • Use fast translate buttons.

      • Select a center of rotation, rotate from and rotate to points using the mouse or enter the x-y values.

    • Automatic alignment of a set of planetary images. This operation can be applied to monochrome or color images.
    • Automatic star alignment of a set of deep sky. This operation can be applied to monochrome or color images.
    • Bin an image using addition, average, or median operations by 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, or 5x5 pixels.


  • Images Statistc Functions

    • Using the 8-16 Bit Histogram with Scroll, Zoom, and Filter Interval
      • Monochrome or color images - Select red, green, blue, or monochrome channel histograms
      • Histogram statistics - Displays the histogram's average, standard deviation, median, and total number of pixels. For each histogram level the intensity range, percent, and number of pixels is displayed.
    • Cross-hair statistics
      • Monochrome or Color images - Select red, green, blue, or monochrome statistics.
      • Global image statistics - Image size, zoom %, minimum, maximum, average, median, standard deviation, entropy, symmetry
      • Local image statistics - Same as global statistics but calculated using a variable neighborhood centered on the mouse pointer
    • Star Shape statistics
      • Monochrome or Color images - Display red, green, blue, and luminance statistics.
      • Global image statistics - Calculate average star brightness, background level, FWHM, HFD, major axis, minor axis, eccentricity, stars detected, and stars used in average statistics
      • Local image statistics - Same as global statistics but calculated using a variable neighborhood centered on the mouse pointer
    • Line profiles
      • Horizontal, vertical, or line segments
      • Monochrome or color images - Select red, green, blue, or monochrome line profiles.
      • Profile statistics - Displays the position and value of the profile's maximum and minimum, profile average, and current position and intensity under the mouse pointer
    • Blink a set of images.


  • MOV, SER, SID, & AVI Video Processing

    • Display and save selected image frames from AVI, SER, and SID files.
    • Automatic grade, calibrate, align, and stack AVI, SER, and SID files.
    • SID video files are uncompressed 24 bit per pixel 928 x 616 color frames saved at 24-28 frames per second using ImagesPlus 4.50 or later camera control with a Canon live view DSLR.
    • Convert MOV video files to SID files for processing.


  • Image & Video File Formats

    • BMP and JPEG image format.
    • Uncompressed 8 and 16 int and 32 bit floating point Tiff format.

  • System Requirements

      Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and Win 10 x32 and x64
      • ImagesPlus 6.5 x64 is for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 x64.
      • ImagesPlus 6.0 x32 is for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 x32.
      • ImagesPlus 6.5 x64 is preferred since it has GPU acceleration of some functions, runs faster overall, and can handle more data than ImagesPlus 6.0 x32.
      • DirectX 11 compatible video card is required with ImagesPlus 5.75a x64 to enable GPU acceleration. See ImagesPlus GPU Acceleration System Requirements, Use, and Current Function List for details.
      • i5 or i7 CPU to take advantage of multi-threaded and parallel multi-core code.
      • For speed 4GB - 12GB RAM and solid state system drive is recommended.
